Duo To Script "Equalizer"

The Weinstein Co. has found its equalizers. Gotham firm has signed on Michael Connelly and Terrill Lee Lankford to pen the screenplay for "The Equalizer." its feature remake ofthe popular '80s TV series, Connelly is an acclaimed crime novelist known for his series of books about police detective Harry Boseh. Scribe wrote the book on which Clint Eastwood's "Blood Work" is based, and his legal thriller "The Lincoln Lawyer" has been optioned by Lakeshore. Lankford a longtime Connelly collaborator, is also an author ("Earthquake Weather") and lias worked on several indie-film projects. Pic will be directed by "Wicker Park" helmer Paul McGuigan. Mace Neufcid, Tony Hldridge and Michael Sloan are producing. No cast has been attached yet: British thesp Edward Woodward played main character Robert McCall in the series.

A hit on CBS in the late '80s, "The Equalizer" was a dark, character- driven crime show; each episode would sec the protag a former intelligence officer help an aggrieved client settle a score.

>Connelly acknowledged in a statement that "times have certainly changed since the days of the television show" but said he and his coscribe "plan to build a character that is of these times but to also keep the heart and soul of the show intact."
